About Me

Yolande Howells

Milliner Designer and Maker.

I love Millinery!! I wish I had found it sooner , but am grateful that I did and I have my mental health to thank for that.  In 2008 I was diagnosed with Bipolar Affective Disorder, I worked in Mental health and it was a very stressful job which really affected my Bipolar so handed in my notice,  It took a little while to find the right medication but in 2010 I felt well enough to return to college, I’d always loved making clothes, jewellery and accessories and enrolled on a Fashion course in Trinity St David Carmarthen.

During the first year at Trinity we covered Millinery and I was hooked, I had found my calling, I wanted to know all I possible could and enrolled on a course in Kensington and Chelsea College London, on completion  I went on to study C&G in Hereford College and completed many other master classes with well know milliners who very generously shared their years of knowledge and expertise with me.

In 2016 I started making and selling hats through local businesses, this gave me the confidence to Open My own studio and showroom in 2017 in Pontarddulais, Swansea.

Here I offer a unique range of beautiful hand crafted hats and headpieces, using both modern and traditional techniques and materials, taking inspiration from the beautiful welsh coast and mountains I am surrounded by.

The showroom is available by appointment,  I can advise you on millinery to suit your face shape, outfit and occasion, and ensure you are comfortable and confident in your choice; choosing a hat is far more than just matching a colour and trying on hats is always fun.

As well making commissioned designs where  I am able to create occasional or bridal headwear to your exact requirements, while ensuring the design compliments your outfit and befits your special occasion.   I also offer a hire service where you can choose from my large collection of hats, hatinators and fascinators, I am also customising making changes to the hired piece to compliment your outfit by adding complementary coloured feathers etc.
